A bridal shower is an event where a party is made for the
celebration of an upcoming birth (traditionally limited to only the first
child, but modern practices have showers for additional children as
well). The bridal shower is usually organized by a friend or family
member (usually a female) and many times the day and time is a surprise to
the young mother. The event is mostly attended by mothers and
sometimes the husbands of the immediate family or very close friends. The
shower could be held at a restaurant, catering hall, or simply at someone's
home. Gift giving is a part of this holiday and all guests will
purchase items for the household of the soon to be newlyweds (e.g.,
Microwaves, Blenders, Picture frames, etc.). Some guests might also
purchase additional gag gifts (e.g., bedroom toys & lingerie).
However, keep in mind that you may have already gone to and purchased a gift
for an engagement party. If you have already done so, it is not
required for you to purchase such an expensive gift for this occasion.
