To show respect for the first President of the Untied States, (George) Washington's Day became celebrated across the U.S.  Years later, to commemorate the accolades of Abraham Lincoln (whose birthday was also in February), the celebration of his birth was merged with Washington's to become President's day.  President's day is celebrated on the third Monday of every February.

Travel: There are many great vacation ideas for gifts for the time period around this holiday.  Some suggestions are Washington DC where you can learn more about these two great presidents; Mt. Vernon, VA, the home of Washington, Popes Creek Plantation, Va the birthplace of Washington or Sinking Spring, KY the birthplace of Lincoln.
